If you’re like me, and you’ve had just about enough of being on Twitter and would like to move to Bluesky, there’s a way to take your followings and blocks with you!
To get started, go here and download the extension “Sky Follower Bridge”, which is a plugin for the Chrome web browser.
Next, go to https://bsky.app/settings/app-passwords and click “Add App Password”. You’ll be prompted to enter a name:
…and then a password will be shown. Copy that into your clipboard and click “Done”:
Next, go to your followers or following page on Twitter. The URL will look something like https://x.com/dmuth/followers or https://x.com/dmuth/following, but you’ll want to substitute your username instead of mine. Once you’re there, hit Alt-B (or Option-B on MacOS), and that will bring up a widget from the Sky Follower Bridge. Type in your Bluesky username and the App Password:
This will bring up a pane which will populate with all usernames on Bsky that match what you’re following on Twitter:
…note that this may take a few minutes to populate.
Finally, if you also want to migrate your block list, go to https://x.com/settings/blocked/all and run the widget again–this will give you a list of all matching names on Bluesky with the option to block them:
…and that’s it, you’re done! One thing I noticed when I ran this yesterday was that many of the people I followed, upon seeing that I followed them, returned the favor. This increases the amount of connections within Bluesky, and the overall usefulness of Bsky as a social network.
